Sunday morning some of our citizens awoke with much damage to their property. Some of the roads were completely blocked. The Rivertown Road, Woodruff Road, Creel, Campbellton Redwine area, and many other roads had a number of trees on power lines and across the roads.
During the morning hours, I visited some of the areas. When I arrived, the City Manager was already there with a chain saw in his hand and the Public Safety Director was on a tractor pushing trees and debris out of the roads. The firemen were hard at work clearing the roads, the Police and Sheriff Depts were directing traffic. This was all good, but what really impressed me was all the volunteers that were pitching in to help. Our neighbors had chain saws going strong. There were some who had their tractors out clearing roads and debris. These people had not been asked to help. They just came out because it was the right thing to do.
As I watched all these good people working, I realized situations like this are what makes our city such a great place to live. It's the reason many people want to live here and raise their families in our city. I hope I can continue to live among people like you the rest of my life.
Today I received an E-Mail stating that several churches had opened their doors to help the citizens that had no power or home. The churches are furnishing meals and other needs.
My special thanks go out to you who have helped our city in this situation and the citizens who are stepping forward to help the families that were affected by this storm.
All the above makes me proud to part of such a great city.
